Statement of Purpose - To form the best possible blend of employee morale with AppalCART's
mission to provide the public safe and efficient transportation. 

AppalCART announced an annual ridership figure of 629,478 passenger trips for the 02/03 fiscal year completed June 30, 2003. 
This year marked the third year in a row system ridership surpassed 600,000 passenger trips. The bus service in the Boone area accounted for 518,630 passenger trips or 82.3% of the total trips.  By mileage, the fixed route bus service accounted for 56.6% of all miles of service. The van routes which serve Watauga County recorded 14,163 trips in 120,327 miles of door-to-door service. 
Additional bus service under contracts accounted for 80,340 passenger trips in 271,394 miles of service.  Sugar Mountain Ski Shuttles accounted for 74,221 of the contracted bus service passenger trips. AppalCART traveled 15,848 miles doing after-school athletic transportation for the eight elementary schools in Watauga County with 6,597 passenger trips.
