Commercial Drivers License Examination

Type of CDL

AppalCART's examiners can do Class B and C - neither are valid for driving tractor/trailers.

Class B -

    A single vehicle that has a GVWR of at least 26,001 pounds.  (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)

    A combination of motor vehicles that includes as part of the combination a towing unit that has a GVWR of at least 26,001 pounds and a towed unit that has a GVWR of less than 10,001 pounds.

Class C -

    A single or combination of motor vehicles not included in Class A or B but meets any of the following descriptions:

    including the driver, is designed to transport 16 or more passengers.

    is transporting hazardous materials and is required to be placarded.

Requirements

1.    Learner's Permit for the type of CDL with a "P" endorsement desired.  (Class B or C only).

2.    Current DOT Health Card

3.    Social Security Card

Examination

1.    Pre-trip inspection -
You will be asked to perform a pre-trip vehicle inspection to ensure that the vehicle is safe to drive.

2.    Basic skills -
You will be evaluated on how well you maneuver the vehicle going forward, backwards, and turning.

3.    Road test -
You will be evaluated on your ability to drive safely in different types of road conditions.

Fee - $200

1.    This is a one-time expense that must be paid in advance and includes the expense of operating the vehicle.
Cash or check accepted, if check, make payable to AppalCART.

2.    Only AppalCART buses can be used.  (Must have a Class B or C Learner's Permit with a "P" endorsement).

3.    Without any additional charge, AppalCART will allow up to six (6) attempts to pass the CDL license examination, however, only one attempt may be made per day.  After six failed attempts, AppalCART will refer you to the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles.

Cancellation Policy

If for any reason the examination is postponed, it will be rescheduled for the next available date.
